LETTER FROM THE EDITORS

Dear Reader, 

​

Since the publication of our fall issue, our school and world have faced life-altering challenges. With the loss of two indispensable friends, the emergence of a pandemic, and the senseless murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and so many others, our approach to life has changed and we find ourselves questioning what we know and how we live.

In the midst of these crises, we are faced with a paradox. It can feel so easy and desirable to drift away from the world while in self-isolation; become unaware of what is happening in our communities, nation, and globe, effectively forgetting and becoming forgotten ourselves. Yet, we have found that in this critical time, those feelings simultaneously catalyze a heightened sense of urgency and responsibility to become conscious of the people and circumstances around us; to fight injustice by acting and responding to the needs of people in order to never forget or become forgotten.

Our theme for this online edition of InLight is Oblivion: the state of being unconscious or the state of being forgotten. 

​

The writing featured on our website shares the personal experiences and perspectives of our authors, illustrating how they find comfort in the void of Oblivion or illuminating that the use of their voices can overcome the grasp of Oblivion in the present moment. We hope to inspire you to perceive the nuances of existence and find beauty in its impermanence.

Our editing team consists of several seniors who helped bring InLight to  Potomac our freshman year. Since then we have produced six gorgeous publications that we could not be more proud of. With excitement, we now pass the editing magic on to our younger staff knowing that they will carry on and improve what we have begun. 

​
